Cyanotypes
who was anna atkins... ? Atkins was an expert botanist and illustrator of plants. She discovered the cyanotype process after meeting the British inventor Fox Talbot. Atkins neighbour was the astronomer Sir John Herschel and it was he who discovered, in 1842, that when exposed to UV light (i.e. sun) a paper soaked a with a complex iron salt solution captured a blue “negative” image, once the salts had been rinsed away. For obvious reasons, Herschel named these prints Cyanotypes or blueprints.
Here is one of my peices I did during photography lesson I dont think this is intreasting because its bland but other people might think this is intreasting, there are only a few bits on there and I have mostly used wood on this that are scrap. Also the step's how i did this. I have used wood and paper I need to put the stuff on the paper and leave it in the sun for a couple while and leave it to fade on to the peice of paper. It is really simple to do and around it you can see the marking's around the wood. What the sun has done this is something that i didnt know or heard about when I first done this and also this is creative that people can do at home. Loads of famous people like anna atkins has done. This peice of my work is my favorite because it has loads of different shapes and detail to it. There aint a lot of stuff on it because I didnt want loads of stuff and its croweded on to the sheet. On the left hand side is a wood what some one has used in wood tech or something and used it for photography, it has faded a little bit of where i kept my hand over. Because it was blowy at that time.

I had made another one with my hand I like that one because that dosen't have a lot of crowded stuff on it either so that one was also interesting but It ain't eye-catching for people to like It was something that came into my head and thought know one has done this before so me and partner thought of doing that. And It turned out well and now In the reception when I walked past I saw my cyanotype work from our classwork.
I like about these photos that they are attracting and interesting to look at and also the 8th one down looks like thats in a bathroom wall on tiles and just faded by the sun or drawn on, the last one is my favorite because its a mattress and you can you see someone has lade on the mattress on there back and the sun has reflected on it and the person has just has it back lade on and the sun has just let the outline just fade, which the thing when I saw this was it looks interesting to see and try I would never thought people can do this on mattress or wood I just thought I can only use it on paper. Also these are engaging for the public to see and also these pictures might represent of the memories of there life time or just where people or family or friends like's to be creative and show what they are pasionate about. If I was doing this I would grab anything thats near me or anything thats artistic and just let what people think of it and give me feed back about it . you can do this in the summer , winter ,autumn

Disadvantages of cyanotypes.
* printing on to the paper can be really slow
* both of the work needs to be done seprately.
* if putting water onto it will ruin it.
*Stained highlights are quite common, due to inadequate clearing and 'bleeding' of the Prussian Blue; they may be difficult to wash out without losing gradation in the high values.
* It is disappointing to watch your picture gurgling down the sink as large amounts of the image substance, "soluble" Prussian Blue, wash out during the wet processing. Heavy overexposure is usually recommended as the only remedy for this drastic weakening of the image.
*The sensitizer is often not well-absorbed by the paper and some tends to lie on the surface; being hygroscopic, it causes a tackiness which can wreck your negative. Results can depend critically on the drying procedure adopted.

Here is a picture of my work I did during photography I do think this is a success of what i did and also this is interesting to see because that is creative and the pieces of wood thats on here is scrap thats from wood tech or somewhere that it's not wanted, and also how i made it is. On some of the stuff on here don't have a lot of stuff on it because you wouldn't to be able to see the wood or the objects thats on here because i would find them bland and not Interesting.

Here is a picture of my hand and this second one is my favorite one because I didn't know what to do this one came up into my head and thought no one has done this before. And also people see this and may not think its engaging to look at. and also how to do is leave it in the sun for a couple of minutes and leave it and leave your stuff on the paper and wait for the outline to come on the sheet and you will see the outline from the sun, and if you see this you can do this from school and do this at home I find this very interesting to try and do.
